Context

Across multiple initiatives, teachers, community facilitators, and early-career Pacific technologists were keen to build skills but had limited time and resources. Formal training alone rarely changed practice, and rigid solutions risked creating dependency and frustration.

The aim was to leave behind tools and processes that locals could evolve without waiting for external help. That required confidence, permission, and lightweight artifacts that stayed with the institution.

Capability building was embedded in real work—lesson planning, community coordination, or platform upkeep—so that learning was immediately applied and reinforced.

What we did

Focused on learning-by-doing: pairing on configuration, troubleshooting, and documenting in plain language.

Encouraged local adaptation over strict templates so communities could fit tools to their constraints.

Agreed early on who owns what, and who can change what, to reduce future bottlenecks and handoff confusion.

Kept documentation short, visual, and stored locally; avoided dependence on external repositories.

Scheduled mentoring in rhythms that matched school terms and community calendars to avoid overload.
